Aue!

Chris Marshall, 2001

Commissioned by Tim Reynish and a worldwide consortium with over 60 participants.

Aue! by New Zealand composer Chris Marshall was commissioned by Timothy Reynish and a consortium of over 60 bands, organisations and individuals throughout the world, under the auspices of the WASBE School Band network. This exciting concept not only has obvious financial benefits but has also given the work far greater exposure than would normally be the case. The first performance was given at the 2001 RNCM International Wind Festival by Chetham’s School of Music Wind Orchestra, conducted by John Dickinson, himself a New Zealander. The NCWO gave the 2nd and 3rd UK performances in October 2001.

The work, published by Maecenas, depicts the sounds of songs, dances, bells and drums of a Samoan village carried on the evening sea-breeze, filtered and transformed by the mists of the rain forest.
