Winter Dances (Fergal Carroll, 2002)

Commissioned by Warrington Borough Council and the North Cheshire Wind Orchestra with funds provided by North West Arts.

Thanks to National Lottery funding, Warrington has recently opened a new arts centre in the town. To commemorate the opening the NCWO and Warrington Borough Council, with assistance from North West Arts Board, commissioned Fergal Carroll to write a new work for band and dance. The first performance of the music took place at the 2002 RNCM International Wind Festival, with the premiere of the dance version at Pyramid in November 2002.

Fergal is a graduate of the RNCM, having since returned to his native Ireland where he continues to develop and excellent reputation as a composer. Although the music will be capable of performance in its own right we are delighted to be involved in a commission which mixes the mediums of music and dance.

Winter Dances is published by Maecenas and has entered the standard concert band repertoire.
